What You Should Know To Do Well In the Video Game Design Industry?

The video game design market is dramatically growing more and more every year. The increasing demand for games that challenge the mind or that contain great graphics is never ending for individuals no matter what their age.

What once was a curse to parents is now one of the best and profitable industries to be in with the proper education of course. Have you ever considered getting into video game design? How many hours have you spent just dreaming about what it would be like to make your own video game? It is definitely possible just by taking the right college classes.

You will have to enroll in particular courses to be able to flourish in this industry. However, what types of courses do you need? Well there are three kinds of courses that you would benefit from. These are programming, game theory, graphic design and animation. Every course will focus on certain aspects of video game design and will educate you in what you should know to get a great job.

It is imperative to sign up for programming courses. The program is the basis for the video game. It is advantageous for you to know the various program languages like C and C++. Such language programs are very important. You can also learn some programming languages that are not used as much. If you know these, you can be more versatile in the industry. This will train you to be like a computer programmer and expand your knowledge.

Take game theory courses to teach you the difficulty and strategies used for video games. Games that have popular titles and challenges that make the player think and plan what they will do next or to find solutions to complicated problems to be able to advance are some of the more favorable kinds of games. Knowing how to this will make you desirable to many video game companies.

With the game theory courses, it is a good idea to take some political science and history courses too. These courses can actually teach you the strategic aspects that people get excited about when playing the game.

Graphic design and animation classes will be good for you to be able to communicate better with programmers and other parts of the game too. Though you may not an artistic individual, it is advantageous to be knowledgeable in this. It will give you the chance to show the employer the various parts of game design you have produced.

The courses mentioned above are ones you need to take if you want to blossom in the industry of video game design. They can be a challenge, but so is a video game. Invest time in learning how to create a fun game that will be one of the best accomplishments you have achieved. Many schools give courses and degrees in this field. Look into, go for the one that is good for you and your needs, and enroll in it.

Where can a student go to college for video game design if never tought about it before?

I am a junior in High school and I love to play video games. I would die to have a career in video games so I can have a job in something I love, but I haven’t taken any high school classes for game design because my schedule is full and I can’t take anything off. is there anything online to do? Or do you start off at a college with no technical knowledge about video games?

You would not likely have classes available in high school that would address game design specifically. A number of colleges have begun offering such programs (try www.collegeboard.com and its college search tool), but you’ll have to dig a little. The names of some of these programs will not include the word "game".

Also, have a backup plan. My son started out as a computer science major with an interest in game design. (He won’t be finishing as one!) According to the academic advisors at his first school, about half of their freshman students come in with the idea of becoming game designers and about none of them actually do become game designers. It’s a very small field and tough to break into, even if you have the persistence to finish the degree.

If you live close to a university large enough to have a "real" computer science department, see if you can meet with a faculty member or advisor there to talk about the field in general and game design in particular.

What Kind of laptop would i need for Video Game Design?

I am going to school for video game design. although i don’t know what kind of laptop i will need for this study,
could somebody help?

You would want a laptop that you would be able to update, hardware-wise… and that isn’t going to be cheap. Like, one of the customizable laptops from Falcon Northwest.
http://www.falcon-nw.com/

Otherwise, it would be much smarter to BUILD a desktop PC out of the best components available, so you could regularly update your video card to what was newest on the market.

end of line

Do I need Advanced math 11 and 12, and pre calculus for video game design?

Academic path to get into video game design?

I’m really interested in getting into some area of video game design, but it’s so broad that I’m not sure how to narrow it down.

Is a a video game "degree" actually worth it, or is it a joke in the industry? Right now I’m taking a mix of computer science classes and art classes, but I’ve only just begun college so I can still move around a bit. Where would a computer science degree put me in the industry? A graphic design degree? Any help at all is much appreciated! Thanks!

A "video game design" degree is considered a joke. Also, as a practical matter, the industry is moving overseas.

If you have a general interest in programming and computers, a degree in Computer Engineering Technology might be best.

Could a degree in video game design from WIT get me a good job?

I live in Iowa, but I would be willing to move as far as I had to, I just need to know if a video game design degree from this college, WIT,
could get me a good job?

Do you mean Western Iowa Tech? If so, that’s just a community college, so the most you could get there would be an associate’s degree.

That’s a start, but to get a "good" job in the computer field, you’re going to need at least a bachelor’s degree. Definitely start with your associate’s at WIT, and while you’re going there, talk with your teachers and take advantage of whatever counseling services they provide to decide what your next step should be.
